Happy New Year
So long 2009
The start of a new year sparks innovation and desires for what lies ahead for most of us.
Turbulent times have been the cause of many debates about why a recession occurred with what can at best be described as name calling or possibly a real life pantomime [oh yes it is] between the politicians as they seek to gain cheap points for votes for the up coming election.
The energy industry is looking to sign up more customers in the name of energy conservation and sell their wares to save energy and money.
The future of many energy assessors is also un-certain as un-scrupulous training companies push even harder to sign up more trainees to their courses for work which is already sparsely spread around those trying to earn a living as energy assessors issuing an EPC or two.
The future of the pre-sale HIP is un-certain, and what those involved in the industry is left hanging. The function of the HIP provider will not disappear; it will revert back to the old ways where the buyer has to supply it once the sale has been agreed. This is hardly progress.
Welcome 2010
EPC evolution into a more informative document to help make informed decisions, combined with more information and case studies of renewable technology will help us all to reduce harmful emissions. Whatever arguments come forward about global warming [it must be pantomime season! oh no it isn’t], we know from experience that a lot of the emissions that man has created have given us smog and acid rain.
Here’s hoping that the HIP will stay in place as it is and will evolve into a much more useful and informative product. Advantages have already found that it has helped speed up property sales; it has helped to keep consumers informed with more up-front information and helps potential buyers decide between properties.
Snow - the useful indicator
Apart from making snowmen and having snowball fights, snow is a good indicator of how well your loft is insulated. If the snow on your roof melts before everyone else’s, then you can assume that you do not have a well insulated loft.
Floor insulation
If you are considering having a new carpet on the ground floor, now would be a good time to look at insulation for the floor. A good quality underlay can help in a small way to make your home more comfortable. Floor insulation doesn’t have a massive impact because heat rises, but little things add up.
